At first listen, I was put off by the 80s synth-pop sound here. But it’s grown on me, helped in no small part by Mayr’s gift for infectious melody. He’s clearly being playful here (as well as unabashedly nostalgic) and the joy is palpable. A bit of disco, a bit of Jean-Michel Jarre and Miami Vice.
